On December 1st2014 The Department for Work & Pensions issued ‘Technical Changes to Auto Enrolment,’ a consultation on draft regulations.
The draft consultation makes three key recommendations:
- For defined benefit pension schemes establish an alternative quality requirement
- simplify the requirements on employers to provide certain information
- create exceptions to employer obligations in certain situations
Richard Porter, Visionary Accountant’s Auto Enrolment and Wealth Management Specialist said: 'Having worked on many auto enrolment schemes I can appreciate that if this draft consultation becomes law in April 2015 it will make it easier for future companies to auto-enrol. Simplifying the quality requirement for DB schemes is positive. Enabling employers just to communicate twice or three times with employees instead of the current requirement to give 5 pieces of information should reduce the administrative burden on employers.'
